Regional Expedition Scheme (REDS)So what it all about? The BSAC definition of a Regional Expediton scheme is: 'Adventurous diving expeditions and exploration at a regional level. They are typically inter-branch activities and may complement branch diving expeditions by promoting expeditions which benefit from the experience of others. Such expeditions are particularly valuable for the development of potential First Class Divers as they enable candidates to be exposed to a wide range of techniques and attitudes.' We put it slightly differently:
If the answer to these questions are YES, Read on.... What is happening in the Yorkshire region?Simon Campbell of the Ribble Valley Sub Aqua Club has now taken over as the REDS coordinator. He is looking to run one major expedition to the Summer Islands (that’s near Ullapool) in August this year. Apparently the visibility and marine life is fantastic. There are piles of poorly charted walls / cave and wrecks which need documenting… Simon have also heard tales of Spanish gold washed up on the shore ;-) He is going to assemble a group of FCD candidates, some Advanced diver candidates and a small sprinkling of National Instructors to find out a bit more about the dive sites around this remote part of the UK. The final team will probably need a number of RIBS and a compressor etc as there is nowt up there!!! If you are interested Simon will be running planning meetings in February at a location central to all interested divers..
