As a special trip for that year I will be leading a group to Truk Lagoon in Micronesia for a once in a lifetime dive vacation.

Truk Lagoon, or Chuuk as it is known by the locals, was the centre of the Japanese Pacific Fleet during WWII. On February 17th 1944 the Allied fleet carried out a crushing raid on this natural harbour, and left over 60 wrecks lying on the bottom of this tropical paradise.

Gasmask in Truk lagoonUsing the MY Odyssey as a base, you can expect to receive the best in attention on board a boat voted three times as the 'Best Live aboard in the World'. Huge cabins all with ensuite facilities, a lounge area bigger than my whole apartment with a selection of 200 DVDs for when you are not enjoying the diving.

Don't stop reading if you don't like wrecks; In sixty years nature has taken hold of these relics, and turned them in to incredible marine life sanctuaries. Count over forty huge carpet anemones on the deck of one ship, massive soft corals draped on the masts, strange species of nudibranchs, and all kinds of reef fish and crazy critters hiding in the multitude of nooks and crannies.

Wheelhouse on ship in TrukHow about if you do like wrecks? Well it doesn't get any better than this! You will be guaranteed to want to return and explore more of these timeless wrecks. Floating through the clear corridors of giant engine rooms you'll see makers plaques, workshops with tools, many things laying as they were when the ship went down. Dive the Nippo Maru to see the 2 man Japanese tank, or the Hoki Maru for a hold full of intact Nissan Trucks. See the Zero fighters resting in the hold of the Fujiakwa Maru, as well as the many smaller artifacts and personal belongings like plates, bottles, and books.

Those of you with training will be able to join me on some slightly more technical excursions into engine rooms or deeper areas - let me know what you're interested in.

I hope this is has whetted you appetite, and I can say from personal experience that this is a trip you will never forget. If you have any questions, or would like to book your place then please just drop me or Andy an email to info@atlantishotel.com. There will be 14 places at US$2555 based on twin share rooms. This includes absolutely everything from when you arrive in Chuuk airport, nitrox on every dive, and beer, wine and other alcohol.

We have to book early as the Odyssey is already sold out for every trip from now until our planned date of July 16-23 2006. A good indicator of the popularity of the boat, and the trip itself. For this reason we will be asking for deposits of US$500 by the end of June this year.
